We love to welcome new members to West Coast Singers! If you love to sing and would like to share your interest with good people, consider auditioning for the chorus.

Auditions for new members are scheduled by appointment. The audition consists of scales to determine range, tonal memory (the conductor plays a musical pattern and you sing it back), and sight-reading. It’s not necessary to be the best sight-reader or singer in the world but it will be a definite plus if potential choir members can already sight-read or have a good musical ear.

To schedule an appointment, please send an email to auditions@westcoastsingers.org.

Below you will find a guideline that shows what to expect as a member of West Coast Singers. Take a moment to read this information, and feel free to browse our website to learn more about us.

Performing. West Coast Singers typically performs three large concerts during our performing season, usually in December, April, and July. Additionally, we have several smaller, more intimate shows throughout the year, including ensemble concerts and holiday caroling. We completed a successful European tour in August of 1998 and have other tours in the planning stages. West Coast Singers has performed at the California AIDS Ride closing ceremonies, the Gay & Lesbian Center's 25th anniversary, PFLAG's 20th anniversary dinner, the Lazarus Project's awards dinners, and many other community service events. We are committed to supporting our community and have become an increasingly visible presence in the Los Angeles community at large.

Fifth Section. For those on the go--who may not have the time to attend rehearsals every week--there is another membership option: the Fifth Section. If performing members are the show, the Fifth Section members are the theater, the staff for our concerts, assistants for day-to-day needs, and crew and backstage assistants. Fifth Section members are invited and encouraged to attend all of the chorus events including tours, concerts, retreats, and social activities.

Fifth Section members are welcome to join anytime! Contact us for more information. If you want to perform with us but it's the middle of our concert season, joining as a non-performing member would be a wonderful way to begin your West Coast Singers experience!

Commitment. Rehearsals for the upcoming season begin in late August -- usually on Monday nights. There are also weekend retreats, sectionals, music reading clinics, and fundraisers that you are encouraged to attend. Membership also requires a financial commitment to cover dues, costumes, retreats, and so on. Some help and direction may be available for personal fundraising through member committees (which you are also encouraged to join). You may also audition to join CLASSIX, a smaller ensemble that performs separately and in addition to the full chorus. Performing with CLASSIX will require additional rehearsal days.

Social Events. Members sometimes get together after performances and/or rehearsals to socialize. There are also movie nights, dinners, chorus picnics, and karaoke events. All of these get-togethers are great opportunities to meet new people and make new friends. Spouses and guests are always welcome to join in the fun!
